This kit is full of fun and motivating activities that will help you introduce picture communication a form of Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC). AAC refers to methods used by some people who can not rely on verbal speech for some or all of their expressions. The Intro to Picture Communication kit contains a total of 151 laminated picture cards that are attached using hook and loop to illustrated pages specially designed to help teach the basic concepts of communication using individual picture symbol cards.

Part of the difficulty with teaching independent expressive communication to some students involves creating motivating conditions. This set includes three multi-page interactive theme sets with instructions and suggestions. The motivating activities use matching picture symbol cards that encourage students to communicate and participate in the activities. They will open ‘movable doors’ to find what’s inside, ask for parts of fun interactive puzzles, and communicate while putting together collections of fun food theme pictures.

Everything is heavy-duty laminated and three hole punched for easy storage in a 3-ring binder! Communicating with and identifying symbolic representations may be difficult for some individuals. The student’s abilities and goals should be considered before using these or any related learning materials.

NOTE: An experienced Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) can lend needed guidance to those working with students with these types of abilities and goals. These materials may be beneficial to trained team members to engage the student in carry-over learning experiences of hands-on communication with picture symbols of communication goals that are lead by the SLP.
