These reproducible workbooks were developed to provide teachers with a resource that supports literacy by giving students lots of practice with specific comprehension skills. This series is based on research and evidence based practices that follow the Science of Reading, and it supports state and national standards. Struggling readers and students not reading at grade level will enjoy these short, high interest passages that build their fund of knowledge. The word count of each passage ranges from 30 to 100 words.
The interesting nonfiction passages in the two workbooks start at a 1.0 reading level and progress to level 5.1 according to the Flesch-Kincaid Reading Scale. They are captivating for any age reader, even adults. The reading level for each passage is listed at the bottom of the page (RL3.4, etc.), and passages are arranged in order of reading level.
Comprehension questions require students to write a complete answer, fill in the blank, and answer multiple choice. Each series of questions for each passage builds comprehension skills by beginning with the main idea and ending with requiring the student to choose a title for the story. Skills covered in this series include: Details, Cause and Effect, Sequence, Conclusion, Vocabulary, Locating the Answer, Comparison, Inference, Fact or Opinion, and Main Idea.
