The Real-World Social Skills Workbooks utilize evidence-based methods to help students build CASEL skills in the areas of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. With direct, explicit instruction, these high-interest, life-skills lessons tackle relevant topics in a light-hearted, easy-reading style that readers will love. Reluctant readers will appreciate the engaging illustrations that reinforce the text. In each chapter, teens and “experts” offer helpful advice with text messages, reinforcing each lesson in a fun, casual, and non-threatening way. Each story has between 358 and 488 words, and reading levels for each story are noted in the Table of Contents. Words to know for each story are listed on the Vocabulary page of each workbook. Follow-up questions to each lesson challenge students to apply the lesson to their real life while also improving essential reading comprehension skills. All questions are standards-based & labeled: compare & contrast, use context clues, draw conclusions, cause & effect, determine author’s viewpoint, analyze, evaluate, & apply, etc. A Skills Chart in each workbook indicates which of the 18 standards are addressed in each story. All workbooks are reproducible for classroom use and have answer keys in the back.
