Interactive Illustrated Idioms & Meanings Binder Combo

Idioms can be funny, but they can also be really confusing! They are an essential part of the English language, and people commonly use them to convey deeper meaning and nuances in conversations.   However, when students don’t understand the hidden meanings, they are unable to follow and participate in conversations effectively.  Idioms are typically culturally based, and they are used in academic settings, increasing in occurrence as students advance in their education.  Failure to comprehend idioms can negatively impact academic performance, written composition, reading comprehension, and vocabulary development.  Because they are so commonly used, it is often assumed that students understand the meanings and nuances within idioms, and explicit instruction is overlooked.   The Idioms & Their Meanings Binder is designed to teach idioms in a fun interactive manner. Designed by an SLP with over 30 years of experience, this illustrated set uses evidence-based, explicit instructional strategies to demystify idioms' hidden meanings, build vocabulary, and strengthen reading and oral language comprehension.  

This interactive set contains a total of 108 illustrated idioms paired with illustrations of their meanings. There are two sections to this set:

Part 1: Interactive Illustrated Idioms - Includes 48 idioms. Your students will enjoy pulling off the top hook and loop card to reveal the matching illustrated meaning of the idiom beneath it. This section includes a total of 96 full color illustrations.

Part 2: Illustrated Idioms and Their Meaning - Includes 60 different Illustrated Idioms and Meaning pairs on 14 pages. Each page has four illustrated idioms paired with the illustration of the literal meaning of the idiom next to it. You can use two attached interactive “Reveal Cards” to cover half of the page and  gradually pull down to reveal the illustrations as you discuss the literal meaning of each idiom.

A detailed instructor guide is included in the sturdy three-ring binder, with sample scripts and teaching ideas. All pages and cards are laminated and will last for years in your classroom or therapy center.
