Race to "1" with the exciting Fraction Formula Game—a four-player competition that challenges your fraction skills and strategic thinking! This game is a fun way to utilize an evidence based method of building understanding of fractions.
This engaging game is highly visual and tactile. To play, players first draw a fraction card from the deck and locate the corresponding color-coded fizzy fraction tile. Then, the player can drop the tile into their cylinder. Each tile fills the cylinder proportionally to its fraction, providing a helpful visual for how close or far away they are from filling it to the top. After drawing the first tile, players must choose whether to "hold" if they believe they’re as close to 1 as possible without exceeding it, or draw another card if they think they can get closer by adding another fraction tile. The player who achieves the closest value to 1 without going over wins the round. Points are awarded to all players, and the player with the most points at the end of 4 rounds is the winner!
By pairing fraction learning with real, tangible visual aids, this game is a great tool to help students build arithmetic skills. The cylinders and fizzy fraction tiles are also useful as manipulatives independent of the game, providing a hands-on tool for comparing fractions, building equivalencies, and combining fractions to equal one whole.
