Science Decodables

The Science Decodables engage students, even resistant readers, with high-interest non-fiction passages that have amazing full color photographs. Each story is written with strictly controlled text so that students are only asked to practice decoding letter sounds they have been taught.  The books progress from single letters to blends, long vowels, digraphs, diphthongs, and suffixes. The outside of the box has charts indicating which groups of books go with specific phonics skills. The inside cover of each book has a list of the letter sounds it uses, along with any tricky words that need to be introduced before students read.  This makes it easy to pair the appropriate books with your phonics lessons. 

A great benefit of using these interesting nonfiction texts is that they help students build their fund of knowledge while growing their vocabulary and decoding skills.  These 60 titles also align with common science curriculum topics, so you can easily pair the decodable books with other parts of your curriculum.  Although written for lower elementary, these decodables can successfully be used with any age student who needs to practice basic decoding skills.
